My daughter has been coming to Nicky Jenks School of Dance since she was 5 years old and she just loves it! All the teachers are nurturing, supportive and enthusiastic.

Through their encouragement, my daughter has completed exams and performed at dance festivals.

As a complete novice ‘dance mom’ I thought the dance festivals would be super competitive events but whilst the element of competition is there, the teachers guide the dancers (and parents) through the event making the whole experience fun and relaxed.

We have found the same when taking exams, the teachers create a relaxed atmosphere with no pressure, just supportive encouragement for the dancers to do their best.

As a result, my daughter has gained lots of confidence through taking exams and pushing her performance abilities and she no longer feels nervous about those sorts of events, just excited!

We highly recommend NJSD as a fun and friendly dance school that encourages your dancer to fulfill their potential.

My daughter, Sophie, has been dancing with Nicky Jenks for the last 10 years, since she was 3. In that time she has blossomed and her love for dancing has grown and grown.

She started with ballet lessons and now has ballet, tap and jazz lessons, dancing three evenings per week.

The reason she loves dancing is all the encouragement and praise she has received from the teachers at the school. When she has been worried about taking an exam they have given her extra time and support and she has passed every exam she has taken so far.

Nicky and her team of teachers are excellent and very friendly, whenever anybody asks me to recommend a dance school I always say Nicky Jenks.

I joined Nicky Jenks School of Dancing when I was 8 years old – I am now in my early 30s and still in contact with Nicky – having dabbled recently in Nicky’s adult ballet class.

Joining Nicky’s school taught me self-discipline at a young age- such as taking pride in my personal appearance (correct uniform and ballet hair) and pushing myself to succeed. Nicky’s teaching style was informal but structured which really helped to build my confidence.

There was ever a dull moment with Nicky – if we weren’t training hard for our RAD exams we were rehearsing for the local school fete, village pantomime or giving back to the community with our performances at the local old peoples home.

To this day I can still remember the moves to the group dance ‘La Bamba’, a chinese style dance, and my solo ‘Send in the Clowns’. My highlight was when I played ‘Wolf’ in Red Riding Hood. The mask we made was amazing, even though it was made out of toilet rolls!

Clare Fenech – Ex pupil

Isobel was 4 years of age and new to Somerset when she joined Nicky Jenks dance school. She showed enthusiasm for ballet since joining a nursery ballet group from the age of 3 years and thrived but then her world was turned upside down. Not only was she about to start school after only recently turning 4 but we moved to the South West from the Midlands, away from her nursery friends, her family and where we knew not a soul. Despite normally being socially confident in nature it was a difficult time.

Thankfully the Nicky Jenks dance school ran dance classes in our village and those nearby offering a great range of dance genres. Isobel started with ballet and after taking part in the Dance School biannual show, which included all dancers regardless of age, she was inspired to join the jazz and tap classes too.

She was delighted to be invited to join the performers group also recognising her aptitude and eagerness to improve. She is looking forward to competing in her third dance festival in June.

She is inspired by her dance teachers, all of whom have different styles and convey with excellence to the young dancers. They have helped Isobel learn how to present herself in competitions and exams eliminating her nerves and making everything fun. She comes off stage and away from exams with such excitement and pleading to go back on to do it all again.

As a Mother seeing her so excited are memories I will treasure forever. She dances at every opportunity, at home, in the street, in the playground nearly constantly. Thus is the making of her teachers and the positive, fun ethos of the dance school.
