• Nicky Jenks

    Principal

    Trained locally and then at the London College of Dance, she gained the Diploma from the 3 year course along with Associateships in Imperial ballet, National and Greek dance. She then furthered her study to fain the Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Certificate and Diploma and is a fully registered member of the Royal Academy of Dance, and a member of IDTA. She has also studied and worked with children of special educational needs. Nicky mentors students on the RAD certificate in Ballet Studies, and also travels all over the South West  to supervise and assess trainee teachers. Nicky is presently the Chairman for the RAD South West, Wales and the Channel Islands region, which sees her representing teachers views from across the region in regular meetings and at headquarters.

  • Jessica Weaver

    Jessica Weaver is currently a student studying on the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies with the Royal Academy of Dance. She is training from home and conducting her practical lessons at Nicky Jenks School of Dance. Jessica started dance with Nicky Jenks at the age of 2 and has trained in every style including Ballet, Tap, Hip-Hop and Acro. Jessica has danced in numerous shows and events and was part of the performers group where she competed across the South West. Jessica continues to train in dance alongside her studies.

  • Laurel Marks

    Laurel is an actress, director, and stage manager.  She is an Associate Artist of award winning ‘Jack Studio Theatre, London’ and a company member of multiple award nominated ‘Arrows & Traps  Repertory Theatre Company’. Laurel began her training with the Nicky Jenks School of Dance; she then continued her training with Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, The Actors Class and Fourth Monkey Training Company where she specialised in physical theatre. Since graduating she has been working professionally in theatre, as either an actor; assistant director, (2 of which were nominated for ‘Best Director’ at the ‘Off West End Awards’. She has directed a short play and TV pilot, worked as a set designer, casting assistant and stage manager for 13 productions. Laurel will be acting in 2 UK tours with Arrow & Traps Repertory Theatre Company during 2021. She is very excited to be returning to Nicky Jenks School of Dance in a tutoring rather than student capacity!

  • Naomi Porter

    Teacher

    Naomi has trained through the school since age 3 achieving Advanced One in ballet, advanced two IDTA Tap, Jazz and Modern. She went on to gain a triple distinction in an extended diploma in Dance at Bridgwater College whilst at the same time studying on the Royal Academy of Dance, Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies and is not a fully registered teacher and member of the Royal Academy of Dance. Naomi trained with Acro arts to become a fully qualified Acro teacher. She has danced with English Youth Ballet and performed in shows and festivals. Naomi has a keen interest in working with children with special needs and is qualified to level 3. She has also just completed a qualification about children and young people with mental health issues.

  • Helen (Fliss) Kenny

    Helen trained at the Alison Axford Theatre School in Devon, leaving with Grade 8 Ballet and Advanced 2 Modern and Tap. She has since danced professionally both in the UK and abroad. Helen specialises in festival work, Commercial Jazz and Hip Hop/Street Style. She is a fully qualified acro arts teacher and is also a personal trainer. In her capacity as a personal trainer she is fully equipped to provide our teens with clear and up to date advice on diet, nutrition, and body conditioning.

  • Amy Williams

    Amy has been teaching Pole, Fitness, Ballet, Aerial and Yoga classes for the last 11 years and has run a successful studio for most of that time. Amy has a huge passion for dance and the aerial arts, although her true love lies in teaching, coaching, and educating others. She is also a biomechanics coach and personal trainer and is a specialist with injuries and flexibility. Amy is also a competitive pole dancer and has achieved a number of titles over the years. Amy loves sharing her passions for the aerial arts and education and so being an Xpert Master Trainer combined both her loves.

  • Nat Lamptey

    An experienced street dancer, Nat started breakdancing from an early age, watching Michael Jackson videos to influence his dance style. He started dance classes with Luis Young and then decided to be part of forming the street dance group “Elementz”. Elementz formed around each group member bringing their different dance styles together. Elementz Street Dance Crew continued performing at a variety of venues over the years including Butlins and Glastonbury 2011. After 4 years the Elementz crew went their separate ways. Nat had met Amy Williams (a pole instructor and performer) in 2010 but did not start his pole training properly until late 2013. Nat continued training as a street dancer and has been teaching street dance for a number of years now. Nat is also an Xpert trained instructor in pole and flexibility.

  • Lucy Catlow

    Lucy began dancing at 3 years old and at the age of 16 moved to London to train at Bird College in Ballet, Modern, Tap, Jazz, Street, Contemporary, Drama, Singing and Musical Theatre. During her training she gained her ballet teaching qualification (at 17 years old) and Modern and Tap (at 18 years old) along with a musical theatre diploma. Following graduation she performed in Westend shows as well as UK tours before teaching in and around London for various dance colleges and schools whilst furthering her teaching qualifications. In 2004 she moved to Somerset to run her own dance school which she did for 10 years teaching ballet, modern, tap, street dance, singing, drama and fitness across all ages, extensively entering candidate for exams and competitions until she had her first daughter in 2014. Lucy is delighted to join the Nick Jenks teaching team.

  • Drum Ross

    I am a Somerset based dance artist and choreographer previously working with Youth Dance companies across the South West. I have also worked as a freelance dancer across the UK and abroad. I completed my training at the University of Roehampton gaining a BA Hons in Dance Studies, alongside my degree I also was part of the BalletBoyz Dance Course. I have taught classes across London and the South West in different ranges of dance styles and contemporary techniques.

  • Maddie Barnes

    Maddie is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. She has performance in venues and theatres across the South West, and in prominent theatres alongside Brian Henry (Soul II Soul, Chaka Khan, Incognito). Maddie graduated with a 2:1 from The Academy of Contemporary Music in November with a BA (Hons) in Music Industry Practice specialising in vocal performance. She studied under the likes of Jono McNeil (Paloma Faith, Michael Buble, Voice UK Coach) and Katie Hector (Incognito, Nile Rodgers, Emeli Sande). Prior to ACM Maddie studied popular music at Richard Huish College Somerset and is a trained dancer who competed in ballet, hip hop and musical theatre across the South West, who studied at Nicky Jenks School of Dance and was part of the English Youth Ballet Company.
