• Dance School of the Year 2018 Silver Award Winners

  • Now in its 6th year, the Dance School of the Year Awards was founded by Anne Walker MBE to celebrate the achievements of theatre dance schools who so often do not receive the recognition they deserve.

From the thousands of dance schools eligible to enter, entries were received from schools of all sizes across the UK and Europe. 37 schools have been shortlisted across four categories which are:

    • Up to 100 students
    • 100-200 students
    • Over 200 students
    • Vocational Schools (Vocational is a full-time school whose primary purpose is to prepare students for a career in dance and the performing arts)

First round judge was Jonathan Gray who is editor of the magazine Dancing Times. The finalist judges were Angela Rippon OBE and Liz Dale who is head of education and training at the Council for Dance Education and Training (CDET)

Anne Walker MBE says: “I feel strongly that the dance teaching profession is not widely recognized for the incredible work most dance teachers perform over and above simply “teaching children to dance”. Dance schools play a really fundamental role in society as they offer boys as well as girls a lifelong interest, as well as teaching them discipline, self-expression, musicality, team-working, co-ordination and many other skills. I wanted to give dance teachers and their schools the recognition so many of them deserve and I am delighted that these Awards are growing in popularity each year.”
